The Short[]

Plot: Scotty and his grandpa, Gus, have a mobile lemonade business, but they soon run afoul of Leonard and his father, who have replaced their novelty store with their own fruit juice store. Believing the lemonade stand cuts into their business, they chase off Scotty and his grandpa from their street corner; the two of them welcomed to share the corner of Buckwheat's father, a bootblack. The gang rallies to Scotty's aide with a parade and a show to drum up business, but bratty Leonard seeks to sabotage their favor with the public. Instead, he gets stuck with a scalp-massaging apparatus into his trousers to the tune of "Stars And Stripes Forever."
Quotes:

  • "Don't rush me, big boy..." - Spanky

Notes/Trivia:

  • This short was released one full year after it was completed, well after Scott Beckett had left the series, making it Scotty's last appearance in the series.
  • Other titles for this short were "Lemonade Trust" and "Follow the Leader."
  • Alfalfa sings "Little Brown Jug" in this short.
  • The bags of sugar and starch in this short are marked "3 Star Mfg. Co. - Elmira, New York." This was a reference to Hal Roach's hometown of Elmira, New York.
  • This is the last time Spanky says, "Don’t rush me, big boy." in the series.
  • Blooper: When Alfalfa starts playing the music for Gloria's tap dance, the record starts to play slightly before the needle touches it.
  • Blooper: When Buckwheat stands up after sitting on the block of ice, the tail of his shirt isn't wet.
  • Blooper: The extension cord wrapped around the tough kid disappears in a shot when he tries to dance it off. It then reappears and disappears again when he falls off the stage.
  • Blooper: When Buckwheat hands the bowl of "sugar" (actually starch) to the shoeshine man, it's full, but When he hands it to Gus, it's empty. When Gus proceeds to pour the contents into the lemonade crock, the bowl is full again.
