Nasturtium is the infant Farina "borrows" after being paid a quarter to watch over him and then sells to Joe Cobb. Despite the baby being African-American, Joe loves Nasturtium because he calls him "papa" and renames him "Joe Jr." Unfortunately, Nasturtium's real mother comes running to take him back.
