The Short[]

Plot: At Greenpoint Grammar School, Miss Pipps is the sixth grade teacher. At the end of class, she decides to celebrate Mickey's birthday when Alonzo K. Pratt of the school board comes by and fires her for the frivolous display on school time. The gang protests by performing a play for the school board portraying Pratt as Simon Legree and revealing the truth about him. The board fires Pratt and replaces him with Mr. Swenson, the school gardener, and rehires Miss Pipps. Mr. Pratt becomes the new gardener and is surprised when the class throws a birthday party for him.

  • None

Notes/Trivia:

  • Clarence Wilson also played the crotchety Mr. Crutch in Shrimps For A Day.
  • Sara Haden also starrred in M-G-M's Andy Hardy series.
  • Christian Rub also did the voice of Geppetto in Walt Disney's Pinocchio.
  • As Maltin and Bann noticed, the blackboard in Miss Pipps's classroom has the erroneous equation of 1 x 1 = 2. Hopefully, this was by a student and not Miss Pipps.
  • All the students in Miss Pipps class seem to be about Darla and Buckwheat's ages, say about nine to ten years old. If Spanky is the same age of George McFarland, he'd be at least three to four years older than the kids in the room. He's either a few years younger than George, been left back three times, or he's in the room as a teaching assistant.
  • Actress Barbara Bedford has played the mother of Alfalfa Switzer and the mother of Darla Hood as well as the mother of Janet Burston. If she's meant to be Darla's mother in this short, it makes it only three months until her "death" in Wedding Worries; not enough time for her husband to woo and marry another woman in that short, where he says his wife passed away four years previously.
