Chatter Brand Ham is sold in the west and liked enough by the outlaws from the Whistling Clam Rancho to have bought or stolen some. When the gang is hiding in the bandits' covered wagon, Joe peels off the label and sticks it over Scooter's mouth to stop him from sneezing and giving the gang's location away. Scooter pokes a hole in the label to breathe, but soon afterward sneezes anyway and the gang is found out.
